So here it is… I’ve been wanting to start a makerspace ever since I heard the term “makerspace”. I am hoping that this dream will become a reality, and you can help.
What is a Makerspace?
A Makerspace is a place where makers of all ages can get together to learn new skills and meet others who share their passion for making things. Makerspaces provide training classes and resources to help makers, novice to expert, with all their project ideas.
What is a maker?
We are all makers at heart. Anyone with the desire to see how things work, to better understand the world around us is a maker.
Why do we need a Makerspace?
Have you ever had a project that needed a specialized tool, but you did not know where to get the tool or even know how it was to be used? Have you ever wanted to build something, but did not even know where to start? Have you ever wanted to be part of a community of people who liked to think outside the box? Makerspaces help build communities of people who want nothing more than to make the world a better place and to understand the world a bit better.
How do I get involved?
Well, the first step is easy. Spread the word. Let people know that there are people out there that want to start this great adventure. Next, contact me at the email above to express your interest in helping to get this venture off the ground. Thirdly, if you have any old electronics or equipment (tools or computer equipment) that is just lying around collect dust, please consider donating them to the cause. We will need resources to get started. And lastly, if you have a skill (i.e. welding, computer programming, electronics, etc) please contact me. We will need qualified instructors that can pass on their knowledge to the next generation of makers.
If you have any questions, please contact me at the information provided above. If you want more information, please visit http:/jerthemaker.com/the-makerspace-hd.
